Laura Trott OBE, age 24, is a British track and road cyclist. Earlierlastweek becamethe first British woman to win three Olympic Gold medals and now, having wona fourth in the Omnium event, she tops the record books.
The British Team's domination in the Team Pursuit event at Rio 2016 Olympics won them the Gold medal last week, successfully defending their London 2012 title. To add to this achievement, she is also four times World champion in the Team Pursuit, Olympic champion in the Omnium and reigning World and European champion in the Scratch Race.
Laura's success makes her an inspirational athlete. She was born prematurely with a collapsed lung and initially began cycling, alongside her sister, to help her mother lose weight. Also diagnosed with asthma she was encouraged to partake in sport and quickly rocketed to the top of her field in National Track, Road and Time Trial competitions. Her first Senior World Championship debut was in 2011 when she won Gold in the Women's Team Pursuit. In 2013 she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to cycling and won two Gold medals in London 2012. Now she is one of the most decorated track cyclist's in British history, alongside her fiancé Jason Kenny who has bagged six Olympic Gold medals.
Laura's a very humble and bubbly athlete. After so much success at such a young age, she has shown immense determination and drive along with her commitment to racing and her team. Despite her tiny 5'4" frame, watching her power is outstanding and seeing her dominate in the final event of the omnium was inspiring! It's safe to say she is a fabulous role model for female athletes and her down-to-earth personality also enables amateur athletes to relate to her as well.
