About KYMIRA
KYMIRA is a British smart textile company developing wearable technologies that help
people perform, recover and live better – human optimisation.
Performance, recovery and health are often limited by two challenges: intervention and insight. Most solutions are used only occasionally, while meaningful physiological and biomechanical data is captured in isolated moments rather than continuously.
KYMIRA solves this by embedding advanced technology directly into clothing, enabling continuous support and continuous intelligence through garments people already wear every day.
Where It Started
KYMIRA was founded in 2013 by Tim Brownstone, an ex-athlete studying biochemistry sciences.
Following an injury while competing Tim began exploring technologies capable of accelerating recovery and supporting the body's natural physiological processes to accelerate his rehabilitation.
Research published by NASA about how they used infrared light to grow plants quicker in space. This sparked an idea that the use of infrared light could stimulate human cell growth and accelerate cell performance and healing.
Having helped with the development of the breakthrough technological textile, following 5 years of academic research, Tim founded KYMIRA®, to bring infrared fabric and its scientifically proven benefits to the market.
Why Infrared?
When KYMIRA was founded, the goal was never simply to create another apparel brand. It was to develop technologies capable of improving human performance, recovery and health in a way people could use every day.
Unlike many performance and healthcare interventions that rely on devices, treatments or behaviour change, infrared technology can be embedded directly into textiles and worn continuously as part of everyday life. This makes clothing a uniquely powerful platform for delivering support passively, comfortably and at scale.
KYMIRA's infrared textiles are engineered to convert naturally emitted body energy into
beneficial far infrared wavelengths, creating a wearable technology platform that works without batteries, electronics or user intervention. Today, infrared remains the foundation of the business and the commercial engine behind KYMIRA's products, trusted across elite sport, healthcare, rehabilitation, defence and consumer markets.
Backed by more than a decade of development, 10+ published peer-reviewed human studies and ongoing research with world-leading institutions, KYMIRA continues to advance both the science and application of infrared technology across performance, recovery and health.
