We were absolutely thrilled to be involved in the 2020 Thames Valley Tech Awards, and up for awards in 5 categories – which we're told is quite a few! The virtual awards evening on the 24th September, presented by Vernon Kay, was organised by The Business Magazine to recognise the outstanding achievements of tech companies in the Thames Valley, an area that we're proud to be a part of and to contribute to.
"Tech is, of course, synonymous with the Thames Valley. The region is home to many technology companies – from global market leaders to start-ups," he said. We also wanted to share some of the judges' comments on our wins:
On the Tech SME of the year win:
"Put simply, KYMIRA is forging important new paths and through highly innovative, new product techniques is really starting to stand out from the crowd – and being delivered into its markets seven years ahead of schedule.
It has moved rapidly from a promising idea to a fast-developing technology by taking traditional textiles and adding smart data and technology – with the ultimate social goal of saving lives. The strength and flexibility of its product techniques is recognised by receiving Smart Grant Innovate awards for three consecutive years and backed up by a fast-developing commercial offering.
A radical dual business model brings its original innovation to the sports and consumer market in order to reinvest into its medical research arm. Already delivering to a truly global market covering high-end sports including NFL and PGA golf, the recent lockdown saw it quickly amend its commercial channels to good effect.
Full medical certifications will take its unique diagnostic garments (currently covering ECG and foetal monitoring techniques) into regulated markets over the next 12-36 months. Already the revolutionary ECG garments are in an initial roll out stage with partnerships with research institutions in NHS, universities, nuclear, defence and space sectors prior to full B2B industry sales. In a timely innovation, adapting the electrospun fabric used in its foetal monitoring garments has harnessed a new application – a face mask with certified 99.6% viral filtration integrity."
On the Science and Technology win:
"We were really impressed with all the finalists, which made a decision on the winner even more difficult. What impressed us most about the KYMIRA was the way it is merging science and technology – from sport to life saving garments."
