Fitness goals; the key to your success

/ Tim Brownstone

It’s true- fitness goals are key to your success. Without them, you would have no target to reach. You would be training for something that doesn’t exist. It’s like walking out your front door without knowing where you’re going. By having these goals, not only will you be focused on beating your last session, but also you’ll be able to compare your previous results, to help you set your next goal. Setting yourself fitness goals are a brilliant way to keep yourself on track. We’re not talking about 2 years ahead here; we’re talking about ongoing goals. One-upping yourself. Start with something easy, and gradually increase these goals as you go. For example, if you’re a runner, start off by setting a distance you wish to reach in your session. For your next session, make it quarter of a mile longer, then half a mile, then a mile and so on. Before you know it, you’ll be running miles further than when you started. It’s psychological. Long-term goals are just as important however, but we tackle these goals by focusing on short term first. You might find that by working short term, you beat your previously set long-term goal. It’s about keeping things interesting too If you’re competitive, it can be a lot of fun too.I’m sure we all love to hear that we’re doing better at something than we were, it links back to our serotonin levels. We’re happier when we know we’re making progress, so setting sensible goals is important. It’s not about challenging yourself to beat the Olympic record on your second session. It’s about taking it one step at a time, to build up to that perfect time.

A few tips to help you stay healthy at work

/ Tim Brownstone

The time we work is the time between our workouts, we can't do an intense session in the morning, and then pig out of snacks for the rest of the day; it doesn't work like that. We need to ensure we're sticking to a healthy, consistent diet as it is responsible for 80/90% of your success or failure when trying to stay in shape. Diet is still important Your worry should not be on how much you are working out, but more on staying in shape in between your workouts! Even if you’re working the normal 9 to 5, it can be better to work on your preparation skills. For example, if you’re grabbing a quick lunch, there’s so many fast food places that will not only be expensive, but unhealthy enough to make your last workout pointless. Prepare, it’sworth it When I say work on your preparation skills, I mean preparing in advance. It’s easy, it takes a few minutes on a Sunday evening, and means you’ll eat healthy and cheaply all week. Next time you’re out, for example, buy 5 chicken breasts. Then the night before, cook them all, put them in individual zip lock bags and take them for lunch each day! You could even buy some salad and make ita little more fancy! Don’t give in to energy drinks We all have those tired days, but choosing sugary energy drinks don’t do your body any good. Try an alternative like black coffee, or green tea to get your daily dose of caffeine. Pack in the snacking If you’re like me, I need snacks to chew, bite, and crunch throughout the day. It’s just a habit. However, if you’re choosing the right snacks, there’s no problem with this. You could be snacking to make up your 5 a day! Sliced apple, bananas, pears, there’s so much choice to replace your bag of crisps or your chocolate bar.

Training in the winter – is it beneficial?

/ Tim Brownstone

Now, it might seem difficult to move from that comfortable position on the sofa in front of the fire when it's -2ºCoutside, but we promise that there’s 5 reasons you’re going to want to train, whatever the weather. You actually burn more calories It might sound strange, but you’ll actually be burning more calories when training in the cold. Your body will be working harder to regulate its core temperature among the elements, meaning you’ll burn more than during your “summers day through the park” workout. You’ll be drinking more water We know the vast benefits of drinking more water, if you feel you’re not getting enough of it throughout the day; we’ve got some tips here!Drinking water before, during and after your winter workout is crucial. Itmight not seem like you’re sweating, as it’s cold, but really your body is still perspiring as usual, but your sweat is evaporating into the dry, brisk air. To keep performing at your best, don’t wait until you’re thirsty to take a drink! It only gets easier When these winter sessions become more frequent, it will get easier as your body will become more accustomed to the climate. Keep this up through the winter months, and summer workouts will be a breeze. Without the harsh winds and frosty mornings to battle against, not to mention the loss of those winter layers, you’ll find that your performance has actually improved.Remember though, KYMIRA performance and recovery sportswear works with your body whatever the weather. With our tech, there's nodifference because of the season. You’ll be doing warm up and cool down routines religiously It’s sometimes easy to forget to warm up and cool down before and after a session. This is much less likely to happen in the winter, as you’ll be making it a priority to ensure your body temperature is appropriate for the conditions, and also to avoid aches and pains not helped by the cold the next day! Believe it or not, you’ll be in a better mood after it Your body will be working harder to stay warm, causing you to burn more calories as we mentioned, but more endorphins will be released, which means you’ll be on a high following your session.

KYMIRA Sportswear drying rates: The science

/ Tim Brownstone

KYMIRA garments are designed to work with your body, like a catalyst. The minerals used in every fibre were selected for their thermo-reactive ability to most effectively convert body heat into infrared energy and reflect it back into the body—giving the wearer benefits down to their core. The science behind KYMIRA allows our sportswear to fuel your body, whilst most other textiles either trap or vent body heat, KYMIRA technology goes beyond this, by turning wasted energy into useable energy. This same technology allows our sportswear to be quick-drying. But what does this mean to you during your training? Our fabrics are designed to keep you at the temperature you need to be, to be at your best. Their quick drying qualities keep you cool in hotter conditions and their thermo-retention keeps you warm in colder climates. This combined with the biological responses to our products means that wearing KYMIRA® ensures that whatever you do, you can perform at your best.

Porridge: Do you know the benefits?

/ Tim Brownstone

Porridge is a breakfast consumed mostly in the winter, not only for its ability to give your body the boost in energy it needs in themornings, but it’s taste. The combinations of ingredients are endless. One morning could be Porridge with honey; another could be porridge with red berries. So what makes it so good for our body? The hot cereal is rich in fibre, has high protein content and helps stabilize your blood sugar. Some of the benefits include: Improve digestion Reduce high blood cholesterol Help prevent heart disease It is recommended that we should be eating 5 to 10 g of soluble fibre each day. A 1/2-cup of porridge contains 3g of dietary fibre. Porridge contain essential nutrients Porridge contains protein, zinc, iron, magnesium, antioxidants, vitamin B, vitamin E and phytochemicals. These can all help boost your immune system! It can also help stabilise blood sugar, and reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Finally, porridge can help with weight loss. KYMIRA – powered by YOU

/ Tim Brownstone

Whether you’re out for a run in your KYMIRA leggings, or playing a match in your new KYMIRA socks, you’re probably wondering; “Why are these keeping me so much warmer than my regular kit?” Well KYMIRA isn’t just clothing that is meant to keep you warm. It’s clothing that works with your body, to ensure that you perform at your best. To break down the science: When energy isusedby your body, over 60% of that energy is actually lost. Most of this energy is lost as heat. KYMIRA works by harnessing this energy and giving it back to your body in the form of Infrared. KYMIRA technology is based around a fibre that is loaded with a potent mix of thermo-reactive minerals which work with your body to produce infrared. Infraredis like the secret ingredient of your success. Infrared penetrates deep into your muscles tissue, which causes changes at a cellular level. This allows widening ofthe blood vessels (vasodilation), providing your muscles with more oxygen. The infraredenergy also causes KYMIRA garments to be quick drying and keep you at a constant temperature. The technology behind KYMIRA allows you to push harder, go further and recover quicker. It’s not all about the heat though, as KYMIRA technology is designed to keep you at the temperature your body needs to perform. The quick drying technology in our fabrics will help you stay cool in warmer conditions, rather than it feeling like another layer to make you overheat whilst you’re on the move.

Gym Bag Essentials (The Music Motivation)

/ Aston Lincoln

Hi, I am a new blogger for KYMIRA sports, my name is Aston. No doubt you will be seeing many more posts from me in the future. I will be writing posts on the health, fitness and consumer tech products that we like and admire here. I will be looking to bring you products and recommendations that will help in the pursuit of your fitness goals. Music helps to motivate you during training, well it helps me, and for my first post I thought I would bring you a quick round up of the headphones you will find in my gym bag (current and past). I have a nice selection which includes Bluetooth, wired, in-ear, overhead and waterproof headphones. So, in no particular order I will give you an overview of why I like them and how they meet my specific training demands. Indoor Training First; we have the overhead wired headsets from Beats and Jabra. When I started training I would only use in-ear headphones to listen to music, but quickly found that they would fall out of my ear when rowing, cycling or performing overhead weight lifting. So I switched to overhead headphones for these exercises. I brought Solo Beats by Dre which I really enjoyed. They still get knocked when doing overhead weight lifting, but apart from that they are really great. Then one day someone recommended the Jabra Revo’s. The sound quality was brilliant; they were more comfortable than my Beats. Now when I hit the gym, they are my preferred choice of headset. These headsets are good for: Weight training (not for overhand weights) Rowing (indoors) Treadmill Outdoor Training When it comes to outdoor training, I like to switch my style of headphones and opt for a lighter set. I currently have two sets, these the Jabra Sport+ and ODOYO EP900I. These are two fantastic but very different types of earphones the Jabra earphones are over ear and are Bluetooth 4.0 enabled. They can be used both indoor and outdoor, and work with exercises with lots of body movement. The ODOYO earphones on the other hand, are a wired set that are waterproof. Great for training in wet conditions and can be used up to 1.2 meters underwater. They were designed with Apple products in mind which is why they have iControls (as I like to call it) to take call’s while out and about. So if it’s raining and you still feel the need to go running these earphones are ideal. These headsets are good for: Weight training (Great for overhand weights) Running Rapid movement exercises Water based training. When it comes to musical motivation in the gym, at a competition or out and about, I have a headset for every possible condition. Not everyone is going to be as keen to fill their kit bag with such a selection so if I had to recommend one, it would be the Jabra Revo. Reason: The sound quality is amazing; it can be used for most in and outdoor training requirements and for the comfort when I am wearing them.
